Winter 2006 - Local

What winter? The weather has been far from normal for the Texas panhandle. In fact, we are starting to look like Arizona around here.

The good news......we are without a manager, at least a permanent one. Larry Erickson is our temp ATM and doing a GREAT job straightening out the cluster*&^% that the previous ATM left. Maybe he will take the job full time?

We have four trainees (all in tower phase) and hope to see them certifying soon...Good Luck!

NATCA and the FAA are in full battle with the 2006 contract negotiations. For details contact your FACREP.

Winter 2005 - Local

The fight is on again. Pantex, our unfriendly neighbors with the orange glow (they swear it isn't radioactive) are at it again. Paranoia seems to still be driving a proposal to raise their prohibited airspace from 4800' to 10,500' creating a roller-coaster style approach to Ry22. They fear that a terrorist may hijack one of the USAF tankers that frequent our airport and dive into the storage areas, but citizens of Amarillo....DON'T FEAR they say we are safe if it happens???

Town hall meetings to discuss this topic are being scheduled and should prove to be very entertaining and it's FREE! Last time this occurred, concerned citizens packed the Civic Center (standing room only) to voice their disgust with the idea of losing the only major airport in the Texas Panhandle.
